Steps to cook

  1. Prepare the ingredients. This is what will be on your plate – a hearty homemade schnitzel with mashed potatoes; prepare the ingredients in advance so the work goes smoothly 🥩🥔 Optionally preheat the oven to 80 °C.

  2. Prepare the meat mixture. Put the minced meat into a bowl, season with salt and pepper, add eggs beaten with milk and work everything thoroughly until you have a compact mixture. If it is too loose, add a little breadcrumbs (depends on the quality of the meat).

  3. Let the meat rest. Place the bowl with the meat in the refrigerator for a while so the mixture firms up and is easier to shape.

  4. Cut the potatoes. Meanwhile peel the potatoes and cut them into smaller, even-sized cubes.

  5. Cook the potatoes. Put the potatoes to boil in salted water and cook about 15 minutes until tender.

  6. Shape the cutlets. From the meat mixture shape cutlets about 1 cm thick.

  7. Prepare the breading. Set up the breading: flour, eggs (you can thin them slightly with milk) and breadcrumbs.

  8. Coat the cutlets. Coat the cutlets in flour, then in egg, and finally in breadcrumbs.

  9. Fry the cutlets. In hot oil (or optionally lard) fry the cutlets 3–4 minutes on each side until golden on medium heat; during frying you can baste them with the hot fat and, if needed, let the finished cutlets finish cooking in the oven at 80 °C.

  10. Prepare the mash. Drain the cooked potatoes, mash them and mix with warm milk and cold butter until smooth.

  11. Serve. Serve the fried cutlet with mashed potatoes 🍽️✨
